Basic Calculation of Hydraulic Conduits

HydroCalculus

Steady and uniform flow

HydroCalculus is an educational software package that runs on Microsoft Excel and solves a wide range of hydraulic conduit calculations under steady and uniform flow. Designed for students, teachers and engineering professionals, it blends the simplicity of the Excel environment with the precision of classical hydraulic methods.

Version 1.2 Excel 2010+ Educational
Features

A complete tool for classical hydraulics

HydroCalculus covers the two main domains of conduit calculation: pressurized flow and open-channel flow.

Pressurized flow

Calculations in closed conduits solving the classical unknowns of steady flow.

  • Energy loss
  • Discharge / flow rate
  • Diameter

Open-channel flow

Sizing and verification of channels across a wide variety of cross sections.

  • Sizing
  • Verification

Open-boundary sections

  • Triangular
  • Rectangular
  • Trapezoidal
  • Asymmetric trapezoidal
  • Semicircular-trapezoidal
  • Hopper
  • "U"-shaped
  • Parabolic
  • Curb-gutter

Closed-boundary sections

  • Triangular
  • Rectangular
  • Trapezoidal
  • Circular
  • Semicircular vault
  • Model
  • Elliptical
  • Horseshoe
  • Parabolic w/ triangular bottom
  • Parabolic w/ circular bottom

Roberto Enrique Pérez

Hydraulic, Civil and Construction Engineer

Graduated from the Universidad Nacional de La Plata, with over four decades of professional experience between public service, private practice and university teaching.

At the Faculty of Engineering of the Universidad Nacional de la Patagonia San Juan Bosco, he served as Full Professor of subjects such as General Hydraulics and Applied Hydraulics, among others. It was within this academic context that he developed HydroCalculus, as an educational tool to bring students closer to hydraulic conduit calculation in a practical and accessible way.
